What Is Lascaux Tusche Waterproof
Lascaux Tusche Waterproof is a water-based tusche formulated to create stable, waterproof marks on transparent supports used for hand-made positives and photoliths. Unlike soluble tusches, this product does not dissolve or react when exposed to water once dry.
This makes it a fundamental tool for layered workflows, allowing the combination of resists, washes and spray applications without accidental reactivation of earlier marks.
How Tusche Waterproof Behaves: Stability and Resists
Complete water resistance
Once dry, the mark remains intact when exposed to:
-
washes
-
rinsing
-
spraying
-
ambient humidity
This enables long and complex processes without loss of definition.
Permanent resist creation
It allows blocking areas of the positive that must remain unchanged during later stages, functioning as a stable graphic resist.
Defined and controlled marks
Suitable for line work, flat shapes and precise marks that need to remain consistent throughout the process.
Combination with other Tusches
It can be used alongside:
Creating clear hierarchies between soluble and insoluble areas.
Main Applications
-
Screen printing positives: resists, stable lines and high-contrast areas.
-
Lithography and related techniques: layered drawing control and zone blocking.
-
Photogravure and photopolymer: clear definition of wash-resistant shapes.
-
Artistic offset and zincography: precise separation between active and inactive areas.
-
Creative cyanotype: permanent resists within painterly positives.
-
Experimental techniques: combining liquids, textures and abrasives without mark loss.
Advantages Over Other Photolith Solutions
Compared to soluble tusches
Does not reactivate with water, enabling safe layered workflows.
Compared to opaque pens
Offers greater pictorial flexibility and natural integration with washes and textures.
Compared to digital solutions
Allows direct, manual and gestural manipulation of the positive.
How to Use Lascaux Tusche Waterproof
1. Apply onto transparent support
Recommended:
2. Allow to dry completely
Full drying is essential before applying any water-based layers.
3. Add washes or textures
Once dry, Tusche Wash, Tusche Wash Spray or other liquids can be applied without affecting the waterproof mark.
4. Intervene with dry tools
Scratching or abrasion can be used to adjust the resist if needed.
5. Expose
Carry out exposure tests according to line thickness and desired contrast.
